Streamyx, previously also known as TMNet
Streamyx is an Internet Service Provider in Malaysia.
Streamyx is the dominant fixed line internet broadband service provider in Malaysia and is a subsidiary of Malaysia's primary telecomunication company and public listed company, TM Bhd.
Obviously TM Net offers its internet DSL broadband internet with the brandname
Streamyx.
TM Net was set up in 1995 by Telekom Malaysia Bhd (which hereafter morphed into TM Berhad) as part of Malaysia National Broadband Plan.
It was originally deployed as a trial connecting TMnet to COINS.The first commercial trial of xDSL by TM was done by a service known as HiS that was deployed jointly with Ericsson in 1999.
The original
Streamyx broadband internet service was released in 04 2001 at speeds of 384kbps.
In 06 2007, TMnet starts the 4MBps service which is presently, is the fastest speed available.
10 12 2009, TMNet
Streamyx introduced a new 15mbps fiber optic service under the High Speed Broadband (HSBB) and is estimated to be launched by 03 2010.
Presently the Malaysian internet infrastructure have been determined as not meeting the recent specifications as essential by basic web applications such as that of YouTube, Skype and thus concludes that Malaysia may not eventually experience the benefits of broadband service. Consequently, Malaysia's High Speed Broadband Project is set to address this challenge.
